W L Wyllie, always up for a bit of fun, especially when it came to dressing up, agreed to take a stall to try and raise money by dressing like a poor street artist. During the three day event he painted seven seascapes on Canvases resembling paving slabs, raising nearly £200 (over £23,000 in today’s money) from the sale of the paintings and money raised from passers-by. Later he also produced this beautiful etching of the hospital, which sees both Big Ben and The Palace of Westminster in the background. \n
