Maggie Cochran

Maggie Cochran lives and works by the sea, which is a constant source of inspiration for her. She has always painted and continues to try new techniques using watercolour, oils, acrylics and anything else that comes to hand. Her current practice revolves around the theme of coastal landscapes, based on the far south-west of Cornwall and local Stokes Bay.

Maggie’s paintings reference the shifting unpredictability of the boundaries between land and sea, between sea and sky. Maggie’s paintings are organic and atmospheric, often tenuous, rather than topographical representations. They are a phenomenological response to being in that landscape, in that moment, with the prevailing light and weather.
Maggie won the Cornwall Life Landscape Painter of the Year 2016.
